I really wish I could see Adobe give the existing customer's a "deal" too. I own Photoshop 7, AE 5.5 Pro, and Premiere 6.5....if I upgrade to the Package deal I should be given a better price than the $1499 and hope to see one soon. It seens fair to me that they should offer a 10% discount for each program you own off the bundle price of $1499. That is if you own the three programs I do, that would equal a 30% discount in pricing, about $450, meaning I would pay $1049 for the Video Production Pro Bundle, I would still only have one license for AE 6 Pro, Photoshop 7 and Premiere Pro....This would give me a savings of $300, while your giving new customer's a savings of thousands? I don't really think this is too much to ask giving the big discounts that new customers are being given, so how about some nice feedback to show Adobe that I'm not just a loner out here.
$$$ Adobe is not gonna listen
(tempting fate)There eyes are green :-)
All our eyes are green. If they weren't we wouldn't complain about upgrade costs!
Let he who be without sin...
Well if you buy into the DVC, it's like upgrading your current software as if you were upgrading the titles separately.
Yes, I agree with this: I also own PS7, AE5.5 Pro and P6.5, but I've decided to upgrade just Premiere and After Effects and buy Encore separately.
This works out much cheaper than going for the package deal.
I'm not really interested in Audition at the moment...
Well at least most of you know how much you need to fork out for the Pro bundle, for us Aussies they haven't even bothered to price it yet, but they have priced the STD bundle.
Not happy.
AP.
Hey Andrew, did you call Adobe for that price? I spoke to 'em a few days ago and couldn't get ANY Australian prices, even for AE6 upgrades.
Not happy Jan.
Yep spoke to Adobe, if you check on the uprades site, the AE6, and PPro prices are now there.
AP.
This bundle pricing may look like a good strategy to get new customers, but I wonder if resales have been taken into account. If I have PS7, AE 5.5 PB, and Premiere 6.5 I'd probably do best to buy a bundle and resell my current copies. If many current customers figure the same way it could cut into sales of the new releases.
I wonder if Encore is going to see volume discounting? Amazon offered some nice rebates on all versions of Acrobat 6, standard, pro, full and upgrade. Encore sounds like the kind of software that would behoove Adobe to get mass market attention, as it could drive sales of the other components of the DVC.
Perhaps Adobe could offer current customers better deals on upgrades if they are bought from the Adobe store in conjunction with Encore at full retail.
I personally think upgrade pricing in general should be more like: 10% of new cost for an upgrade from version N to N+.5, 20% for N to N+1, 30% for N to N+2... Overpricing upgrades does make me take a fresh look at competing products. Roxio's high upgrade price on EZ CD Creator 6 led me to buy Nero... and they give me one N+1 upgrade free!
You have point Mike.
I have AP6.5, AE5.5 PB & PS6. I have absolutley no interest in PS7, but I would like to upgrade AP & EA, as well as get Encore.
As it stands, it's cheaper for me to buy the DVC std version, upgrade AE5.5, and then sell the AE6std that I don't want.
I'm concerned about too much "mass market attention" though, since the forums are already populated by too many who can't RTFM! ;-)
Mike,
You're in the same boat as a lot of people. No answers have been given yet. We've seen an Adobe person from their sales department lurking around that is "taking notes" but it would also help if you called the Adobe store and relayed the same information. The more exposure the better. The two best options right now are first stay with Adobe by purchasing a new standard DVC, then sell your existing Premiere and the NEW copy of AE 6.0. Seems silly just to buy it and dump it but that is all that it is worth. You can upgrade your PB for $299. It's pointless to get the Pro bundle because you already have PS7.0. The ONLY hitch with this is that there is a little surprise waiting for you. If you want to have DD5.1 DVD... there is another $295 fee to activate. Hence Option two. Upgrade your Premiere pro and AE production bundle. Then get a competetive upgrade at Sonic Foundry to Vegas 4.0+DVD. For $499 you'll get second NLE which has some features that PP does not, a DVD program that a lot of people really like AND an AC-3 surround sound encoder. Option two will involve more work due to lack of integration.... but it is less expensive.
Ah, but the joy of reading people here coming up with new and creative ways to say "RTFM" will be so much more frequent!
I'm aware of the Adobe lurker(s), taking their copious notes. As a side to them I'd like to say I'm pleased that they are offering Audition at a very reasonable rate to owners of CoolEdit. I'm very interested in that too - I'm a long time CoolEdit user who has always loved it but wished someone would work on the UI a bit, maybe put some stuff in palettes...
Thanks for the heads up on the DD 5.1, that's the first I heard of that. For me personally at this point in time, integration would be more valuable than DD, but that could change in the future. Perhaps the policy/pricing will improve by Encore 2.0 or so. Or 3rd party options become available, if possible.
Possibly dumb question about Adobe bundles: you can (legally) resell the components, can't you? It's not like MS Office where there's one license for the lot, right?
you can (legally) resell the components, can't you?
Perhaps an Adobe lurker could come out of lurk mode to correct me (or you could contact sales) but AFAIK the components are individual with their own individual licences. Or at least that was the case when I bought the Design Collection 2 or 3 years ago. MS Office is upgraded as a whole collection. This is not the case for the Adobe collections, after purchase you upgrade the components separately.
Well, I bit the bullet tonight and ordered AE 6 Pro ($499 version because it included Invigorator). I already HAD AE 5.5 Pro but, since Adobe had never seen fit to include Invigorator in any of their previous 'special deals', I decided to pay the extra $200. The fact that I upgraded from Standard to Pro once before but never got Invigorator still irks me.
Like many others here, I am going to wait to see if Adobe offers existing registered owners any better deals for Video Collection. Remember, I'm the one who started the original threads (Where's the 'deal' on Video Collection?) on several forums here and I'm glad so many others have taken up the cause. However, since AE 6.0 is supposed to ship in 'early August' I decided not to wait. The rest of the VC is not due to ship until late August so there is no need to rush.
Besides, I already have Vegas 4 + DVD )(got them for only #299 WITH the 5.1 encoder - how's that for a 'deal'?). Even though Vegas is very different and takes a bit of getting used to if you are used to Premiere, it is really starting to grow on me and I may just stick with it. If nothing else, the hardware requirements are significantly less so I don't have to worry about hardware upgrades. I may forego the Adobe VC 'deal' all together (there is NO equivalent to After Effects and Photoshop so I will never give those babies up!).
