I want to explore digital video editing and see that Adobe offers several different programs. I'm looking for a way to edit video, overdub sound effects and music and add titles. What's do I need?

Thanks,
Gary

Final Cut Pro 4 or Final Cut Express can do all of that.

Acutally, iMovie 3 can do all of that for free if your looking for just the features you mention.

Or, if you are in the 98% group that uses a PC, Premiere Pro is coming out end of next month. If you really want all the toys, the Digital video collection can be had for a steal. $799 for a NLE (editing program), a motion graphics program (After Effects, the forum that you are in now) a DVD creation program and a great audio program. You can check it out on the main page www.adobe.com

Welll.... I'll take a nibble. =)

98% of what? I didn't know PC-based ATMs, postage machines and photocopiers ran Premiere. Nice to know the cash register at the liqour store edits video in its spare time.

Gary, if you are new to non-linear editing, there are plenty of options for you.

If you were my brother, I'd have you download a copy of the free iMovie 3 and give you a weekend to play around with an iMovie book. If you feel limited by iMovie 3, then Final Cut Express would be a natural, somewhat inexpensive step-up. But you'd be surprised what something like iMovie 3 can accomplish for everyday projects.

All NLEs (non-linear editors) operate in very similar methods. Kinda like how all word processors work pretty much the same. At their most basic functionality, NLEs are word processors for video.

You have a clip bin to hold your raw media clips. And you have a timeline which holds edited layers of video, audio, and effects.

Actually, there ARE PC based ATMs and cash registers... :-)

And Microsoft Movie Maker is free with Windows... :-)
