My problem is because of the nature of my projects I have to create my video in AE (not Premiere). I don't know how fast Encore is going to transcode but I can't imagine it'a any faster than Sonic's Producer, which I use now. It takes longer to transcode in Producer than it does to render in AE. I debated going with Vegas because it outputs MPEG and would cut my project time in half but I'm counting on Encore pushing the same functionality out of After Effect. My fingers are crossed.
Tracy,
AE rendering faster than in encoding is not because AE is fast, it's beacuse good encoding is slow.
Try looking at it another way. Mpeg2 encoding works and looks best when the encoder can really analyze the source footage. The encoder needs to be tweeked depending on the footage content. Or you need to let the computer do the tweeking through a two pass encode. Why rerender in AE just to change the encoding settings?
It seems like you need a faster encoder, not for AE to encode. If you Mpeg2 a lot then look into a Hardware encoder.
Hello Jim. My source files are all created in AE and render in realtime, I love that :) My RTX100 encoder encodes in realtime out of Premiere, that's great too. My problem is that I can't create the type of transparent layered video in Premiere that I need to for my type of projects. All of which end up Mpeg2/DVD. If AE would output Mpeg2 then it saves me the time of transcoding. You raise a good point! I'll look into the possibility that DVD Producer and my encoder are not working together as efficiently as they could.
Thanks
Tracy, a third party product called DVMPEG will allow you to make MPEG 2s directly from After Effects.
