Hello there Really a silly question and I am sure the answer is right under my nose but can't find it. I have a layer with LOADS of effects applied. All these effects are applied to an Illustrattor image. Now I need to change this image and keep all effects and transformatuons on that layer. How do i do it????

Cheers

Select the layer in your timeline you want to replace. Go to your project window. Drag your new footage from the project window to the timeline layer while holding down the option key. AE will swap out the footage, but keep all the effects and keyframes the same.

You can also use the File -> Replace Footage command by selecting a source file in your project window. However this affects your project on a global scale and will swap out your old source file for all comps in that project.
