ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS 88 ADOBE WINXP SKIN

I pitched this idea in the Premiere Pro forum but I wondered if any XP based AE users have any comments. Please no pro Mac/anti-Windows comments, no platform is perfect and it'll just end up with dumb comments flying around and block any real debate.

I still don't see why, if WinXP can be skinned and Adobe have spent a long time getting an Adobe look across a product range that they can't have an Adobe skin for WinXP and some better looking icons too! Face it Microsoft have no taste, they're to style what McDonalds are to gourmet meals.

One look for the chic designers another for the monkeys using OfficeXP, they so need BIG RED buttons!

I have XP set to Classic and I've set up a "nice" grey theme - but it'd be interesting if Adobe came up with one.

John

Fair enough - is it that hard to do?

hey john,
i've heard from my friends that XP is utterly disgusting with it GUI options... however, one of my friends found some thrid party app that allows him to customize as he sees fit. have you tried looking around for something like this? it's conceivable that you could even generate your own style that farms from adobe's tastes, if you see fit to do so.

when that person becomes available, i'll ask them what they were using to alter their appearance. in the meantime, however, you could probably find the same thing with a little research.

There are SO many skins and icons out there -- some of remarkable quality. I just don't see a need for Adobe to replace every XP icon out there.

If Adobe can't recoup development costs for creating icons, I can't see them doing it. The short question is, "what's in it for them?"

Does *any* corporation offer an OS skin?

Somebody asked if any other company had bothered with a skin, well actually one has - Pinnacle Edition takes over the WindowsXP interface while it's running. It does make for a better visual environment!

I think Darcy responded to exactly the same point that you made in another forum.

And the answer was negatory.

Honestly, John, how many cross threads are you planning to run on this non-issue?

He did. I disagree with him.

Just here and the Premiere Pro one.

I was curious to see what others felt but I don't think having the opportunity to work within a better environment is a non-issue. Don't ask,
don't get.

I have been a stardock customer for three years. They make some really great products to customize your desktop. Best $50 bucks I've spent on a package of products. There are millions of skins and icons at wincustomize.com too that work with their products. There is also a free tool @no-spam www.objectdock.com that gives you a dock bar you can customize. Mac users argue they have a better interface. True perhaps. But I argue I can customize mine the way I want...every little detail. Jobs locks you out.

I'll add my 2 cents to this by mentioning that I rather enjoyed the simplicity of the Softimage 3.8 interface back in my 3D days, none of the organic-looking hullaballoo just simple easy to read functionality.

Hey Josh, back in the Mac OS 9 days, I had friends running Kaleidoscope (a skin utility). They had Comic Sans and Olde English for system fonts -- flying coconuts for a stopwatch and a unicorn for a cursor with Borg green and baby puke yellow windows (with a picture of a sunset in each window background!) A rude 15 second sound clip from South Park for a system beep was the pièce de résistance! Oy!

I think that some lack of "customizability" is a very good thing™.

How can asking for a better visual environment be a “non issue”? I wish it was so I could tolerate Aqua and try liking OS X! :-)
