ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS 91 AE5 5 RE INSTALLATION PROBLEM MISSING DLL ERROR MESSAGE

Subject: AE5.5 re-installation problem, Missing dll error message

Recently, I had to reformat my boot drive and reinstall all software, including Win ME.


When I re-installed AE 5.5 and try to start the program I get the following error messages, " A device attached to the system is not functioning", followed by, "The AVIFIL.32.DLL file is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:memmove."


The NTDLL.DLL file is in the System folder but a search for AVIFIL.32.DLL does not reveal anything.


A search of the Microsoft Knowledge base about similar error messages and Adobe products suggests that, at installation, the Adobe product will often overwrite or make duplicate Dll files that will cause this kind of error message.


Any suggestions?

I am running Win ME, on a Sony Laptop. AE has run on this system before without issue.


When I reinstalled everything I upgraded to Windows Media Player 9, and I am using DirectX 9. I did not install the DirectX 8 that was on the AE installation disk.
