Does anyone know how come when i select a stroke on my text or image...it kinda cuts into it...or strokes inside the letter a bit and it gives mea result which looks like some of the original lettering is gone..or chopped into.

Is it possible in Illustrator 10 to stroke outside the edge of a letter or object?? if so ..how?

thanks alot
