For AI 10, I need to reduce the file size in order to post a map on our website for people to download. Its in pdf format but is way to big and all the information does not translate. I can flatten the transparencies but is there another way to get the pdf file to a size that it doesn't take forever to download? Thanks in advance.

Susan,

When you save as PDF, uncheck Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities.
Choose 'Custom' in the drop-down and for both colour and greyscale images set Average Downsampling to 72ppi, Compression to JPEG and quality to Low or Minimum

Better than that it to distill using Acrobat Distiller.
