I've designed a book cover using two spot colors and process black. I've removed all other swatches from the swatch palette. All graphics are grayscale or bitmap. When I do a preflight it reports that I'm using 3 process colors plus two spot colors. I'm wondering how to get rid of the two extraneous process colors. I've seen some info in the forum on how to check the actual color output, but this refers to ID CS. I'm still using 2.0.2.

And in your Swatches palette menu button, have you already tried the "Select all unused" and then clicked on the trashcan button? Did you remove references to missing swatch colors from your paragraph styles too?
If so, you would be left with the synchronize gambit:
1. Make a throwaway document with the swatch colors you really want defined in the Swatches palette. Nothing else in it.
2. Make a book, opening the real and the throwaway documents into the book palette. Set the synchronize button to the throwaway document that has correct colors defined within it.
3. Synchronize the two documents. This will replace the swatches and will uproot the phantom color swatches.
This has been described elsewhere (and better than I just did) in this forum. Try a search.
Also, if the other colors are otherwise harmless, let the Ink Manager simply exclude those plates.

I figured out what the process colors are doing there. They are in a gradient I made. Need the gradient, so I guess I'll keep the process colors. Thanks.

Yet, this begs another question...
Is there a "find-color" feature in any version of ID, with or without a 3rd party plugin?
In Brand-X there is an extension called "Badia-fullcolor" that finds where a mystery color is used (often a zero-point border) and will even tell you if the color is used in document pages or only style sheets.
Costs $80.00 but worth every penny just for that one feature. It does a bunch of other stuff too in the dog-and-pony vein.
