ADOBE INDESIGN WINDOWS 87 FI BUG

Everytime I export to an eps file from Indesign 2.0.2 (Windows XP), the process changes every incidence of "fi" in sequence to blank spaces or the latin character "thorn" (Þ or þ). Is there any way to export or save to a high resolution graphic without it changing the characters?

Turn off ligatures is the easiest way. Search the forum for ligatures for details.

Removing the ligatures worked. Thank you!

Yes, ligatures will do that.

Is there a way to turn this off? On my ID workstation I get Hyphenation and Ligatures enabled by default. Even when I open convert a document from PM. I'd like to turn both of these off.

Write on the blackboard 100 times:

Nearly all InDesign defaults and preferences work the same way: for future documents, set them with no document open; for existing documents, set them with nothing selected.

If you can't get at one under these conditions, then that one is not subject to these rules and you have to live with the factory default.

PS: It's not necessary to write the caveat 100 times.

With no documents open, go to the Paragraph palette menu button and turn off ligatures and turn off hyphenation. This becomes a global default.

That one went right over my head. I don't get it.

DOH! #-o I can't believe this! I asked a question on something I already knew. Actually, I knew that PageMaker worked that way, I didn't know they made ID work the same. Thanks a lot guys!

P.S I don't understand the "you mean 77" joke either.

I read it to mean that he's already written it 23 times.

That's what I thought at first but it seemed too obvious. A simple, "I already did" would have been much easier for my feeble mind to grasp.

Oh, you guys should read more than software manuals. Rule one is never explain a literary reference. :-)

When you consider that the last book I read cover-to-cover started with the famous words "See Spot," that would be good advice to take. :)

I never finished that one. What happened in the end?

I didn't rent it, my buddy burned it on DVD for me. LOL
