I had intended on putting together a file of textures to share with you. However, textures make ridiculously large files...way too large to share over the net ( I have dial -up ) so decided i'd just give ya a quickie tutorial so that you can make your own.
First thing you need to to is create a new empty folder somewhere that is easily accessible to you...'my documents'...whatever...name it 'my textures'
This is for PE2 users although PE1 users can still benefit from this.
The default file size for textures is 512 X 512 pixels at 72 resolution so that is what size we are going to create a 'new' transparent image.
Then go to toolbar>layer>new fill layer>patterns...choose 'rock styles' in the drop down options. Click on the first one (marble)OK. Rasterize layer (simplify) Go to toolbar>image>mode>greyscale..say "yes" to tossing color info. Click on the half moon circle at bottom of layers palette..choose' brightness/contrast'. Raise contrast to +65. Merge visible. Go to file>save as>'Stucco paint' and browse to your 'textures' file that you created and save it in there. Ready to test it ? Create a new image, fill it with a color or gradient...go to toolbar>filter>texture>texturizer...scroll down to 'load texture'...browse to your texture folder and click on the 'stucco paint'. Play with the lighting angles at the bottom and the relief slider if you wish. Cool ?? Yes, i know the resolution is for web. You have the option to create these effects at a higher resolution to be used on higher resolution images for print. You'll have to raise the percentage of the pattern as well.
PE1 users....there are plenty of patterns to choose from in the program that make great textures. look for ones that will give a good contrast. Most of them work great.
You are welcome ;)
Another little quick tip. Go look for things with texture and take pictures of them. Grass, stones, bark on trees etc... all great texture makers ! Just be sure to resize your image before doing the steps ;)
Oh, and another thing...i was assuming and shouldn't have...default patterns look best used at 100% for making the textures for web but you are certainly welcome to 'play'.
Jodi....we gotta get you off this dial-up thing...
:-)

Jodi,
How very nice of you to share things with us here. I know you spent a lot
of time on this and are so generous to just post this here for all. Thank
you!
Pete
Pete. it's the process of testing that is time consuming but i truly love doing this stuff almost as much as i love sharing it ;)) Thanks...missed ya..where have you been ? Not sinking are you ?

Tha water rises and then it recedes. This morning it was at its highest and
was about a foot deep in the road in front of the house. This afternoon the
road is dry. So for the most part I have been right here! Where have you
been:)
