Regardless of what I did...pressed F1 etc... windows did not start up. I unisnstalled and re-installed memory...twice...same screen...can't get passsed it. Had to take the new memory out to get Windows back...What is wrong ??? HELP, please ;((

Jodi,

When you installed the memory modules, did you push all the way down (there may be one or two clamps, each side or each memory module, were you able to clip them onto the memory modules?)

How many modules did you receive, and how many were already in place in your computer ? You might want to install only one new at a time, see if this one works. One module could be defective (although it's not commom, it happens sometimes).

Your new and old memory could be incompatible. If so, you may want to run your computer only with the new modules, if they are bigger.

Ray, when installed I pushed all the way down until the clips automatically closed. I originall had 2 ...256 & 128. I moved those down and placed the 512 in first slot.

I did in fact call tech support for the chip. He told me to try it with just the 512 and see if I could get passed the screen. He told me to call him back either way. I needed a break from it so haven't started the process yet. My computer did in fact recognize the memory upgrade...the screen that i mentioned in my original thread was all i could get. Windows would not load. I pressed 'F1' simultaneously ...right ? then what ??

I pressed 'F1' simultaneously ...right ?

Not sure what you did... You need to press on the F1 key, on top the keyboard, not the <F> and <1> keys together.

Ray, I'm back in business and now running 896MB's of memory. Yay! I am perfectly familiar with the 'F' keys so I do not know where my freekin' mind was. Well, I went outside afterwards with a cup of Koolaid and a nice quite smoke...and laughed at myself.

Question: Available RAM for PE~ 834798k's using 50% shows 417399k...is this good or should I get greedy ?

P.S. I'm well aware of the dangers of cigarette smoking. Not a peep, please...I mean it. ;))

Jodi,
On the Photoshop side, the general advice in the past has been to allocate no more than 75% of available RAM to Photoshop. Image size is the real issue in adjusting this number. I suspect your 50 % allocation will serve you just fine, without starving any other processes for memory.

Already done. And I may have a little something for you in a few days (to be confirmed)

...TO BE CONTINUED :-)

Ray P.S. I'm at the laptop right now, the heat is making it difficult to use the computer (desktop). Laptop has no e-mail.

P.P.S. Did I say Thank You ? :)

While being at 'confessions...', being here help ease the stress I am under as per my pending surgery. Each time I read a note and get envolved in a thread, that's one moment less I can worry about the outcomes of this procedure.

Ray P.S. Just so everybody knows, it's no life threatning surgery, it's to correct a mal function of my jaws.
