ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 93 CF CARD NOT WORKING

I know this has been discussed at least once, but I can not find it. I downloaded pictures using both my camera and my new CF card reader. Not all of them downloaded and now the camera seems to not recognize the card. Nothing happens when I plug this CF card in the camera but the camera recognizes another CF card. I would like to retrieve the pictures and I would really like to use the card again-its a 256 MB card. I think something happened as I downloaded from the camera which is in keeping with what many of you have said. I'll stick with the card reader from now on. However, after I downloaded from the card the first time and took out the CF card with the reader still attached, the icon disappeared from my desktop that appeared when I plugged the reader the first time, and I got some message like I need to disconnect from the file or something like that. It was the next download using the camera that something occurred during the download and I did not get all the images and now the camera dows not work with that card in it.

Thanks
Carl

Carl,

What you need is an image rescue software.

Here's a link to such a software, but there are probably several others, and perhaps some with a trial period :

Next, once you've salvaged your pictures, you'll have to format the card within the camera. This ensures the card will be compatible with the camera for the next photo session.

Also, it's a good practice to eject the card (under windows as far as I can tell) before removing the card from the reader. This makes sure no applications are currently communicating with it.

Beth, I have a similar reader and there's a light on it, indicating wheter the card is ready to be removed or not. When the light is on, you shouldn't remove the card, thus proceed with the Eject before removing the card.

Ralph,

Any tips on how to use that service. It looks promising, but the very first thing that came up was that I was supposed to set the "clusters' . I do not know what that is and I certainly do not know how to set them. I looked at the short instructions and maybe I missed it but saw nothing. I will look at the long instructions tomorrow, but sure could use a tip or tips if you have gotten this to work.

Beth and Ray,

Sure sounds like what happened to me. My instructions do not say anything about this, but I was supposed to install the software, but did not think I needed to do so with iPhoto. Now, plugging it in does not give me an icon on the desktop like it did. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Carl

Hi, Carl. How brave do you feel? Take a look at this <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75509>.

Carl,

Unfortunately, I know close to nothing about Mac.

Hi Barbara, I did take a look at this, because I will be getting a new Mac this fall with OS X.

With my 9.2.2 Macs, all I do is hook the Coolpix up to the computer, and download the pictures, this is using the quick and easy NikonView software.

I have tried to download my older Coolpix onto my brother's computer w. OS X, and iPhoto won't do anything, tried taking the card out and using the cardreader. Nothing.

I didn't want to install my old NikonView stuff on his machine, as iPhoto is supposed to deal. Now with your information, I will try again this week, and see if the Nikon Icon shows up on the desktop, if it does, I assume I can just drag the photos into iPhoto.

Perhaps should get the newest version of iPhoto too while I am at it.
Thanks, Jane

Jane, it's a pretty big download--over 33 MB, so I hope you have broadband. If you do, I would avoid iMovie 3--lots of problems with that one if your brother has already used iMovie 2.

Hi Barbara, I haven't used iMovie yet, as I usually take stills. Having so much fun with my Coolpix and PSE, that I haven't even thought of our old movies.

However we do have our old Sony that we took miles of movies with up until about 10 years ago when our kids were pretty well grown up. That would be quite an awesome project to digitize all of them. We need to get a digital movie camera first, or I guess I could just borrow my brother's new Sony and run my camera cable into his, and just copy my tapes. Isn't that the way you digitize movie tapes?

But I better get the snapshots and slides done first. We have thousands of them too, and boxes and boxes of slides from our travels to digitize too.

I think I better learn iPhoto first.
(We do have cable here thank goodness.)
Most of those new Apple goodies will be on the new Mac that I get next fall, I hope.

Barbara,

I have to pick myself off the floor I was laughing so hard. I can not even spell "terminle and unis-like enveronment" much less know enough about it to go in and do the things that are described. Where and how do you find these things? I doubt Steve Jobs could do that, but I suppose you think it would be a trivial job. Well, thanks but no thanks. I want a still functioning computer. There would be nothing but a mushroom shaped cloud. Invisible something or other to find!

Thanks
Carl

Yep, Carl, there are Mac users and then there's Barbara! I'm not sure you'd catch me doing that, either.

Jane, keep in mind that iMovie can be used to create excellent slide shows with custom transitions, effects, and music. In spite of what the name implies, it's not just for movies. I've done a couple of "shows" I'm really happy with. A conversion to Quicktime, burn to a DVD, and you can show all your pictures on the TV screen. Much better than setting up that slide viewer and managing the carosels - assuming yours still works. Ours needs very special handling by now.

Hi Beth, That is another project that is waiting for me to do! I had forgotten that my laptop works as a TV thing. Our old slide projector still works, but it is very tender too. Lots of duct tape.

When I first got my laptop, I set up a whole bunch of pictures with Graphic Converter, and hooked it into the TV, and wow, Graphic Converters slide show was great!

I was just using the little Mac as a sort of slide projector, I didn't know really what I was doing, but I had read that the "S Video" cable from the little computer would transfer everything on its little screen to the TV and it did. I haven't done it again, as I have a large monitor with my big Mac, and haven't really needed it, as we gather in the computer room to watch pictures. But when the grandkids get older, that would be a lot of fun.

There is no end to this computer fun + creativity!
I just learned from this forum today how to add a pattern background to a picture.

Thanks everybody!
Jane

Beth - I didn't know imovie could do that! (I will have to go look-see! I've never even started up imovie) I think the latest version of iphoto is the second largest download i've ever done. The largest was the update from 10.1 to 10.1.5 which finished precisely three minutes before my time limited dial-up line (I can only be online for four hours at a go!) shut itself down...

Susan, if you still have os 9 on your machine, the os 9 version of imovie has a nice little tutorial (although not about the slide show directly.)

Just looking at it quickly, it seems that it is only imovie3 that has the slideshow faclities - is that correct?. (I've only got the original imovie that came with OS10.1) An 80-something meg download is not currently an option!! I guess I'll have to wait until I get Panther or broadband.

No, Susan, you can do it with iM 2, also, but I don't think know for sure about imovie 1. I think you can but it's not quite so easy, but I'm not sure about that.

As a follow-up, I contacted Data Rescue as Ralph suggested in the third message in this thread, who seem to have been helpful. I am going to mail my card to them as it is not being recognized by my card reader or my camera now. I will give a follow-up on how it turns out.
