AUS AVIATION 34 IL 76 NOISE FACTOR ALLOWED

I noticed the Ilyushin 76 that the Defence Force have contracted that flies in and out of Richmond / Pearce / Middle East is bloody noisey. Today it followed a 707 and was about twice the noise.

Is this level "permitted"?

or is some "OK" given in Canberra for its noise?

*REAL* planes:
1. make lots of noise 2. burn lots of fuel 3. go really fast
Pick two :) Concorde was (is?) IMHO the only civilian bird to score a trifecta, the 727 comes in 2nd ;)

As for the Canberra question - no idea. They may be a special exemption for some reason but if it was twice as loud as a 707, it was "only" 10db louder,
so might have just squeezed in under the limit (not sure what the limit is though).

Cheers,

Military ops do not have to conform to the rules that civil ops do w.r.t. noise.

yes, Tuesday 8/7/03... well it Royal Australian Air Force written down the side, I didnt see which exact one it was, but it had re-fuelling pods on it whilst the only remianing 707 there didnt Departed Richmond at about 1300hrs and head nor west, as soon as it departed a nice new white 737 flew over a few times... and left without touching the ground and a USAF C141 arrived.... no idea where the 707 was going wasnt paying attention I was there for the Il-76.

Engines fitted to (and noise footprint of) the Il-76 varies according to model but I don't think it conforms even to stage II noise levels... but then again neither to the RAAF's 707s (civil type)... I think the military can do what they like (at least in Australian airports)... There is a re-engining proposal for the Il-76 using CFM56 engines...

BB.

Bill, 623 flew out of mainenance in Sydney for the last time this afternoon. Took off from 34L.... the pilot kept the climb shallow until it had passed the line of hangars, then pulled up and climbed steeply away -
four trails of sooty exhaust behind. Quite a few people taking photos and videos...

BB.
