Hi All
I'm looking at purchasing either a new C206 or Piper 6x (for those of
you that don't know, this is the new fixed-gear Saratoga equivalent
which has recently been announced by Piper).
Anyone know any pro's/con's in actually owning/operating either of these
aircraft. Obviously noone will yet own a Piper 6x, but it looks like the
only difference between this and the Saratoga is the fixed gear, so
Saratogo owners/operators yell out!
Things I'm interested in are the typical maintenance costs such as
annuals, parts backlog and availability in Australia, build quality etc
etc I've flown a limited number of hours in both types and they're both
basically equally as enjoyable! The Piper may come out a smidgin in
front because of the low wing and the ensuing regular soft/passenger
pleasing/ego stroking landings. =) My decision will basically come down
to the pure economics of owning them.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Cheers

Wouldn't think so, should be maintainable anywhere, just like an FJ Holden.

You don't need a mechanic for an FJ,
just a 1/2" spanner, pair of wire cutters and a farmers fence,

Nah. I think that each aircraft has its own engine(s). Makes it easier
to for aeroclubs to fly more than one at once, etc....
Sorry..
(long day at work. Quiet and bored....)

Add some 100 knot tape and you have a Piper toolkit!
I have not seen the specs but I reckon the Piper will be faster but carry
less load and need more strip? The good old C206 can handle the tight stuff
very well and is not a charter company favourite for nothing. For private
use only you can judge. LAMEs in my opinion only need the books etc and they
work on em. They are all bloody primitive beasts in the LAME end. Its the
avionics that need experts. A plane is a plane etc at the LAME view of
single engine planes from what I have seen but lets hear what LAMEs think!
