G'day, thinking about an alarm output that gives a nice (I listened to that bloody tone for years repairing radios!) 1000 hertz tone at a couple of hundred watts inside the car. If I was to run a small oscillator module to the input of a supercheap auto 200 watt $50.00 amp to a couple of good tweeters would this give an irritating sound loud enough to keep idiots out of the car? Or would I be better to use a couple of those peizo horns? Or what?

Peter

Go the peizos - I could be wrong, but I've alway been under the impression that they're very efficient and virtually indestructible.

Russ.

I have a super simple circuit that has sent car thieves running 3 times now.
It can consist of one relay with 2 make-contact sets or 2 relays with a single make set (Narda spot-light/driving-light relay). Tandy supply a 12v screamer for about $15. This along with wire/inline fuse and a mini toggle switch and the relay/s can be wired up to simply latch on once the relay is supplied volts by any of the door switches (older Fords are switched volts for courtesy lights).

I leave a back door open to stop lock and door skin damage. Once the circuit recives 12v fromdoor switch the relay operates and locks itself on by supplying 12 v to itself via its contact set. This 12v is also switched to de-activate the circuit. The location of the switch can be outside the vehicle up high in the inner guard to avoid mud and water etc. The same contact also sends 12v to the aural alarm. Also the latching causes the interior light to stay on.

Has saved my car and is bullet-proof / simple.
