BMWs cost a lot more than Commodores but their prices aren't out of whack
with the rest of the world. They're worth the extra money - just as Apple's
computers are.

Brilliant!
'Thinking Different" leads down the road to Macs and Porsches etc...
Thinking like the other 90% leads to PCs and Commodores etc...

Therein lies the difference. You're a Corolla kind of guy. A car is a thing
to get from A to B right? Nothing more. A computer is a thing to crunch
numbers, right? A PC does that just fine.
Some of us live in a different world. A Ferrari isn't for getting from A to
B. It's about the journey. So is working on a Mac.

Well I guess we can't argue with logic like that!

From what I've seen, most well-staffed labs use resident programmers to
write their own software (smaller labs often buy software from those larger
labs). And, since most of those programmers use a PC, very little of that
software will run on a Macintosh. The same is true for non-commercial
military software and propriety business software. In fact, there are vast
areas of government, military, business, commerce, industry, and research,
where the Mac is not even a vague consideration.
Likewise, there are whole segments of the software market where the
Macintosh is not represented at all. Since I also use a PC, I routinely run
into situations where there isn't software for Macintosh while there are at
least several choices for Windows. Take a look outside the mainstream
applications (WP, DB, SS, and so on) and you'll quickly see that is true. If
anyone wants examples, look for robotics, electronics, or radio related
software. While there are some very limited choices, the Macintosh software
gaps are huge. And I could easily give other examples (if anyone really
wants more, try astrology, law, mathematics, science, weather, marine or
flight navigation, map charting, propriety business software, or education
software - again huge gaps).
All that is the unbiased truth (even if I, or some of my fellow Mac users,
don't happen to like it).
