I notice the Aussie dollar is now up to $US0.67
This is good news for DVD buyers no doubt. I plan on making a relatively
large purchase from a US store and was wondering if anyone knew if it would
be best to jump in now while the dollar is at this favourable rate or is it
due to get even better?

I don't think there are any guarantees. "experts" would probably say yes it
will, but 2 months ago these experts were saying interest rates would stay
the same until th end of the year, now these same "experts" are saying they
will come down again by 0.5%, which doesn't seem like much, but is a huge
change of thinking.

Very early in the year when the dollar was still pretty flat I saw an
interview with a market analyst who predicted 70c before year's end. I
thought "no way!" but it's been steadily moving up. Another 3c increase
over the next 6 months seems quite possible.

If anyone new the answer to that they would be an extremely wealthy
individual.
Personally I think it will hit 70c but I wouldn't put money on it as I'd
probably end up being a very poor individual.

Ha! When I was a lad, the $US was worth 90c
GaryQ

Balance of payments. Dropping exports, rising imports. Influx of
speculative capital. Lots of reasons.

We are not even close to being the highest taxed country in the world. We
are one of the lowest taxed countries in the OECD.

Salary packaging takes care of a lot of tax and keeps the 1% medicae

Not to mention gambling revenue...
But I take your point - I was in Victoria a few months ago and got done for
speeding on the Geelong road 103 in a 100 zone with a $120 fine.... <sigh>

Sticking to the speed limit will nix 'em.

Well maybe it was 6 years ago, but a while back I was watching an old tape
from what was probably 1997, and a news segment came on and it clearly
stated the dollar was 79 point something, - practically 80 cents.

What difference would it make if you were driving down a slight hill?

One word, "gravity"! ;-)

So the original poster was still correct though. Going over the speed limit
because you are going downhill is still going over the speed limit. It is
the same as saying that sticking to the speed limit will nix 'em, but not if
you are running late for work.
After reading your first statement, I had wondered whether there may have
been some problem with using a radar gun on an angle.

Now that is interesting. What is the law that says that they can't put a
speed camera at the bottom of a hill?
>Just my 2 cents worth ;)
No, I think that the fines are higher than that! :-)

PS. Just to keep it on topic for aus.dvd, is it my imagination or is "2 Fast
2 Furious" coming out on DVD rather soon after it's theatrical run. I don't
normally pay much attention to release dates, but it doesn't seem too long
ago that I kept seeing the poster on the side of buses (which seemed a
little ironic to me at the time).

way offtopic for this newsgroup, I'll just point interested parties at
