Does this mean you'd be just as well off if you bought a Phillips TV instead
of a Loewe?

So what does Panasonic use? Teac?

No, because the different electronics play a big part in the image
displayed. The tube isn't the only factor.

Even more so! Loewe can still go and get fucked! Why isn't "Sam" responding
to these e-mails? Is his surname Loewe?

IMHO it's a stupid decision, with the price of plasma sets coming down
almost daily, more ppl will want to go that way, rather than spend big bucks
on a CRT set, regardless of it's quality! ;-)
I dont know about whinging mate.... but would you be happy if your Loewe
tv's tube gave up the ghost just out of warranty?? I think not. Im lucky
Loewe came to the party and agreed to replace the tube for free(although im
still waiting after almost 3 months). I still probably wont buy another of
their products. Mines been a real dog since the day i bought it. Have had
constant discolouration issues(red and blue patches on screen, typically
when watching NTSC titles), the screen constantly goes off centre(which i
was told was an off effect of having pay tv by one of Loewe's techs that
came out to resolve that issue, and that there was nothing that really could
be done), and recently and dying tube. Admittedly I only paid approx $1400
for the teev, but when i was told it would cost up to $1500 to replace the
tube i was a little knocked back. So I think I have good reason to doubt
their quality.
Ether way i intend to buy a Plasms screen in a few years time when prices
are more attractive and technology is more refined. Bugger CRT...they take
up way to much space and produce to much radiation. Give me flat panel and
little to no radiation technology any day.
And to Falco, where exactly did you get your facts from . Pioneer now offer
5 year warranty on its Plasmas, and im sure more manufacturer's will follow
suit. Many of the crt manufacturer's still only offer 12 months as standard.
Ive seen some pretty aweful looking large screen crt's that are priced in
the 3-5,000 dollar mark. Make sitting up close to a Plasma screen look like
a good option. And life span of a plasma can come quite close to a crt as
long as you dont run a plasma to bright or use static images. Not to mention
Plasma's produce much less radiaiton(if any at all).

What does everyone think about these two brands. I am considering
purchasing either a Loewe Aconda 81cm or the Grundig Lenaro 82-6210.

The Loewe Aconda is a superb TV, Grundig I would steer clear of since the
company has gone belly up. But if I was going to fork out the money for the
Aconda I would look at the new Toshiba 86 cm set, far better value than the
Aconda+superb picture tube + better specs and connection options.

It doesn't do HD, so has a limited shelf life.

Loewe are the most stylish TV's on the market, with the 100Hz having the
best picture quality bar none. Only one problem, they are very unrealible. I
know 7 people who have Loewes, and all seven have had them repaired, all
different models, lucky for them, it was within the warranty period. But
mine wasn't, four years after I bought it, cost me $180 to get it fixed. I
wouldn't recommend it. The picture quality is better then japanese models,
but they are not worth the money, in lieu of the fact they break down too
often.

I've had one for well over 4 years. Not even a slight problem.

Thanks everyone for their input. Completely confused now. I didn't
know Toshiba had an 86cm. Can't find it on their website.

Which website are you looking at? Here's the Australian website link:
http://www.castel.com.au/Toshiba/ProductDetail.asp?Brand=T&Category=CTV&Prod
uctCode=36SW9UA
Best current CRT TV out there and the set is discounted. If I had to buy a
set today this would be it, unbelievably good picture and the tube is
excellent.
