Of course money's the problem. An episode of 6FU costs $US2m, for
instance. If more money was available here for script development and
writing, we may have a higher standard of TV drama.

No, time is money. So, more money means more time to do more drafts to
get scripts right. More money means the ability to hire better writers
and script editors, whether they be from Australia, US or UK. More money
means the ability to hire more experienced or commercially successful
directors and producers who can provide more rigorous script management.
We have fine actors in this country, and great DoPs, sound recordists
and editors, and post/FX resources and facilities (as can be evidenced
by the accolades and awards achieved in the US holyland you so admire)
but no Australian has ever won an inetrnational award for writing a good
SCRIPT. Every bit of drama begins and ends with a script. Put the money
and resources and training into script development and things may
change.
