Hi,
Being a fairly new resident in Brisbane, I have the following
questions, particularly after the new survey...
I know that River 94.9 has been discussed til the cows come home,
however, why isnt it included in the Brisbane survey when Power FM
gets into the Wollongong survey? Where is the consistency? After all,
isnt Power FM supposed to be primarily for Nowra and the Southern
Tablelands.
Also, the Ipswich LAP only allows River 94.9 to broadcast into the
Brisbane direction at a weaker transmission? Shit, whats the point?
Most of the Brisbane metro area can receive River 94.9 in full stereo,
so why limit the transmission in the first place? Sure, it isnt in the
Brisbane market, but if the ABA decide to have an Ipswich market in
the first place then they are always going to infringe onto the
Brisbane stations turf.
Despite all of this, I would have thought that it would make the
Brisbane survey more accurate by including River 94.9. Heck, it is my
favourite station out of the 4 commericals, a view obviously shared by
many others! Infact, I could take this further and would be interested
to see what sort of percentage Sea FM Gold/Sunshine Coasts & Rebel FM
have as well, as they broadcast in stereo into Brisbane. What is the
point of the survey when you arent going to include the *very* nearby
stations. Wouldnt B105 for instance be interested to see what sort of
listeners River 94.9 attracts - same with New 97.3?
On Radio info there is an article discussing what JJJ needs to do to
stay competitive in its relative market - well, it is stations like
River 94.9 and Nova FM(s) that have essentially killed it off.
Also, what is the name of the station that broadcasts at 96.5? It
covers all of Brisbane metro in full stereo, has regular ads, does
traffic reports and plays Top 40 music. If it is a community station,
they fooled me.
Answers please!
Michael
965 is family fm, there a god botherer station and won the licence over
Switch (i1197) which is 1197 AM, . they are a community station as well. 965
has been on air non stop for years, under a tcbl while switch, groove,
paulse and wild had to share 97.3
river 949 are in the same situation now that they were in back in the 4IP
days as stereo 10 - 1008am now 4TAB)

i didnt know River and 4IP were the same station
tecnically they're not, 4IP licence is still in operation as 4TAB and
actually is listed as 4 10 (what 4ip changed to during there Stereo 10 days.
the station went broke. the TAB ended up with this licece.)
Then Ipswich got a new licence on 106.9FM which whent through the first of
its life as 106.9 QFM (4QFM was the call sign) , then a slight format change
and they were star 106.9. THEN they changed call sign to 4MIX (prolly to
block 973FM from using 'mix' if they got the licence which they did).
the way river plays the game, its the same thing over again,
