I stopped doing that when I got a ticket in Lancaster for doing 8 over when
I passed a tour bus. Now my policy is to go the posted speed limit no
matter how ludicrous it is. That way the morons who determined the speed
can see how stupid it is and they might just change it.
Sad thing is, I still have to pass people even when I go the speed limit.
And the temptation to speed is so much greater when I'm in the tiny car.
It's not quite as easy to go the speed limit when you are in a tiny vehicle
and people are pushing you from behind.

We could only wish for such a blessing. I'm speaking of the asshole gravel
truck drivers who get paid by the load and drive accordingly. Tailgating,
speeding, running reds, etc... They essentially work for themselves so
their driving safety record is not important. How many loads they can
transport that day is the only concern on their minds. I encourage you to
jam your brakes while going "the speed limit" in the far left lane with one
of these assholes on your rear bumper. That'll teach him a lesson, and I'm
sure you're big dodge will hold up fine.

Um..I think your missing the point here. It really doesn't matter what
KIND of car one is sitting in when they fire the bullet into your
brain. It's more an issue of aim and size of the gun. In fact, a
Miata, being as nimble as it is could meneauver better than a large
truck. That way he could get right up to you and blow you away before
you could pee in your pants. You would never see it coming. He would
just pull up next to you and fire.
On the bright side, before you bled to death, you MAY be able to ram
him with your truck. But only if it's heavy traffic. Otherwise, he is
long gone.

SARCASM. Rather thinly veiled sarcasm at that. Juan stated he had done
that to a Miata who tailgated him. I suggested that he do that to the
Gravel truck riding his ass. I agree with you, it's a damn stupid thing to
do, which is why I encouraged him to do it to the gravel truck. He would
NEVER do it again after that experience, I only assumed he was smart enough
to see my SARCASM and not try it. Personally, he shouldn't try it even on
small cars because if contact is made swing the ass end of a 1/2 ton Dodge
around at highway speed could be a damn scary impact with the center divider
or traffic in the right lanes. Course he is apparently not smart enough to
realize that the little Miata could cause him to lose control so maybe I
shouldn't encourage him to try his version of heroics in front of a gravel
truck.

Along those lines, you started me thinking...maybe too much education is
hurting the envirnoment?
See, too many liberals and morons staying too long in air conditioned schools
financed by taxpayers and graduating to get jobs as, well, cab drivers and
pool guys.
Now, 4 years of sitting around partying and draining mom and dad's retirement
funds, snoring in air conditioned classrooms, burning gas going to school
every day, and all the cane fields and wheat fields with their tons of
carbon/petroleoum fertilizers just to make them rum and beer and whisky to
drink all day and all night, wouldn't the earth be better off if these
liberals just cut out the 4 year college waste and stop hurting mother earth
and Gaia and just got jobs as waitresses, whores, teachers, journalists and
political analysts right away out of high school?

Silly question here:
If i didn't own a truck and went to the Home Depot or Lowes or what have
you, just how am i supposed to get those one or two boards home? or maybe
the several 50# bags of dirt and mulch? do you realize that people who own
trucks/SUV's generally do so for a purpose (at least everyone I'm familiar
with in any case). We all haul stuff around.
I use my in business. How many chimeneas can i put in the bed of my Explorer
Sport Trac? about five. How many can i put in a Miata? not sure i want to
try that.
As far as I'm concerned drive what you feel comfortable in. Worry about the
other guy only when he's a threat to your safety...then just use the
ubiquitous cell phone to call in the cops and report the menace :)

Last week I brought home
1 1/2" 4'x8' sheet of plywood
4 4"x4"x8' posts
2 2"x4"x8' boards
in an '86 Volvo 740 wagon, I call it the luxury pickup.
I get around 23MPG city.
Most SUVs I've seen aren't designed for convenient cargo transport. Narrow
hatch width, protruding wheelwells, and seats that don't fold flat.

Very good points. True a Miata will not haul much. But using the
'extreme' (Miata) as an example is not a true representation of the
cars on the road. There are many mid-size and larger cars that would
haul two boards or several bags of mulch just fine. In fact, many of
them have fold down back seats. To go one further (I'll have to search
for the stats) Many cars actually have more cargo room than some
SUV's. Obviously, this is not the case with pick up trucks.
Agreed, many trucks are used to haul things, but many aren't. Rather
they are shined daily with fancy decals and add-ons, 4x4 off road,
raised-wheel monoliths that are nothing more than a 'status' symbol to
these people. Why, I'll never know. But from the F150 all the way up
to the F350 Dooley. They ARE a danger to car drivers. Their very
presense on the road presents a danger to us. If one was to hit a car,
the truck wins. Add that to the inablility to see while you are
driving behind one, and the danger is increased. I realize, we need
trucks of all sizes. But the sheer number of them on the road today
has increased by so much, that it is now IMPOSSIBLE to keep away from
them on the road. Years ago, one could simply move to another lane, or
pass the 18 wheeler etc. But now, no matter what lane you get in, no
matter what time, the odds are, that there will be some kind of SUV,
Truck, Hummer etc. in front of you. So, the danger remains a consant.
SUVs are a completely different story. Much has been bantered about
this subject already in this forum. Most of them have never been off
the concrete, except when they are backing out of the garage and run
over their own child because they couldn't see him. Your Navigators,
Escalades and all the other 'luxury' SUVs are nothing more than an
American cultural phenomenon for status, false feelings of safety etc.
They pose the same dangers as pick up trucks. Not to mention what the
whole lot are doing to our environment, and fuel consumption, leading
to higher demand, and thus, higher prices at the pump.

How many chimeneas do most people buy? I could put at least two or
maybe three in my back seat. OTOH. If you are a chimenea delivery man,
then I guess you need a vehicle that can haul a lot of them.

That's the core of the problem. People are only thinking about their
own concerns, not about what they are doing to the environment, and
the dangers they pose to other drivers. That is precisely why we see
H2 Hummers barreling down the highway today. Unfortunately, many
drivers on American roads have a very arrogant, selfish attitude. The
"I'll do whatever I want, to hell with you" approach. In Texas, it's
common to see the individual who is typically fat or grossly obese,
bald or shaved head, cap, Skoal, large brand new shiny truck, and an
accent that makes hicks sound like aristocrats. Or the 9 mexicans
going 20 miles an hour in a 30 year old pickup.

You all are nattering on and on about silly bullshit and off the main
subject...see guys, it comes down to freedom and a matter of free choice.
No one "needs" another Big Mac when they're overweight, no one needs to smoke
cigarettes or drink excessively, no one needs a $200,000 house or a $20,000
car.
Being able to buy those things with free will and free choice is called
"freedom".
Beware the facist socilist communist liberal religious democrat nanny
republican assholes who want to limit your freedom and nanny you into
subservience, scold you into sullen compliance and especially beware of the
social engineering and attempts to get you to comply to a narrow minded
bigot's idea of their own heaven on earth; everyone riding bikes or something
as silly and as stupid as that.
This is very simple...you don't like SUVs, don't buy one.
You don't like porn on the web? Don't click on it.
You don't like colorized movies? Turn off the color on your tv.
You don't like Hillary or Bush? Don't vote for them.
You don't like guns? Don't own one.
You don't like freedom? Move to China.

I owned a Ford F150. A lady who was not paying attention pulled right out
in front of me while I was traveling about 25 miles on a side street. She
never saw me coming and it was close enough that I only had about three feet
of skid marks before I "t-boned" her drivers side door. If I would have
been in a car the Cop told her she would probably have been dead due to the
fact my truck was wide and stretch across her little Ford Escort from front
tires to back. Something less wide would have penetrated her vehicle. I
guess my point is vehicles aren't dangerous... stupid lazy drivers are.
Thank goodness no one was seriously injured accept her insurance company...
it caused $ 4,800.00 dollars damage on my truck. Now I drive a Supercrew
and probably always will. I'm safer and protected from those who don't know
what they're doing.
