Regular readers will know of my interest in the low end of the System/390 and zSeries market,
and for the lack of anything from IBM itself, my interest in emulation of the architecture on
other platforms.
Most people could recite a list of players - but there are a number that have never really
done anything but say that they planned to do something. One such is Platform Solutions,
which describes itself as a "1999 spinoff from the Amdahl Corporation".
Just recently Platform Solutions' web site went "Under Construction". Using the usual
Internet tools, I poked about a bit.
(They had alternative domains at platsolns.com, platsolns.org and platsolns.net, BTW)
Google found a few hits - some of the old stuff is still in Google's cache.
But the fun started when I started to search on the address - Suite 210, 1250 Oakmead Parkway,
Sunnyvale - to see if the same company cropped up under another name:
MSC Software is registered as an IBM Business Partner at that address and suite number -
http://www-1.ibm.com/solutions/plm/doc/content/partner/863366113.html
Tata Consultancy Services http://www.tcs.com/atc/ also.
And http://www.angelfire.com/de/lagana/books2.html - "Chicken Soup for the Dental Soul". You
have to scan down the page for that one.
You couldn't make this up. From IBM emulation to chicken soup?
