Yes, I go to that fleamarket every year. I will have 6 tables with all
kinds of computer cables etc., ham stuff etc. Get there early and buy a car
space for $5 and you can sell your stuff there as well. There will not be a
lot of the latest modern computer stuff there, but stuff 2-3 years old, dirt
cheap. If you wait there is always a large amount of abandoned stuff at the
end for free.I think there is also some inside table space left, but ask
Norm Freidin ve3czi@no-spam 905 335 8962 if there is inside space left.
There is always out side space in the parking lot at $5 a space.
Typically about 100-125 inside tables and 100 outside spaces rented. Old
radios stuff from the 20's and 30's, old telephone gear as well.

As the Indoor Vendor Chairperson..I would like to express my appreciation
to all who might have attended our Annual Amateur Radio & Computer Flea
Market at Milton Fair Grounds on Sat. July 5, 2003
The Numbers are not all in yet, but was a very successful event, with the
weather co-operating AGAIN this year...only had Rain "once" in 30 Years! !
We had one disappointed Computer buyer who came at 12 Noon, only to find the
Flea Market dissolved.
Don't know quite why, but the General Public gets in at 9 AM and by 11:30
AM, the vendors are starting to pack up...maybe because the crowd has
started to whither!
Therefore, in the future, remember that most Amateur Radio Flea Markets
seem to end by Noon or 1 PM at the latest. Most organizers would really
like them to last at least until 4 or 5 PM, but I guess people are in too
much of a rush to get on to thier "next" daily activity and not wander
around enjoying one of thier favorite activites....Looking, Dreaming,
Bartering, Sociallizeing, Talking with other enthusiatsts and maybe learning
something.
Thank You all for your participation and constructive comments are always
welcome.
Regards...Norm F

Hi Norm, I see you found this newsgroup I'd talked to you about... ;-)
I believe the "one disappointed Computer buyer" you refer to is me. ;-(
It seems there was no closing times for the fair posted on the website
http://home.cogeco.ca/~barc/Ontario%20Hamfest%202003.html
(I've checked several times), or at least no closing times that I could see.
It was my first time to this show, and judging from the size and scope
of it, I figured a show of this magnitude that happens once a year should
at least be open more than 3 hours. Every Flea market I've ever attended
lasted until at least mid-afternoon, and some even go for a couple of days.
Here, after only 3 short hours, the Flea vendors fled. I got to the
fairgrounds well in advance of when I thought the fair would be shut and
was shocked to see the gates locked; the only thing I could think was
perhaps the fair was next week, but was surprised when I eventually saw
you to learn the fair was indeed today and it was already over.
There were others who were looking to make the trek (did that carpool
from North York get off the ground?) and I consider myself lucky that
my trek was only a half-hour each way when there may have been others
who drove in from much farther distances who would have followed the
website directions and saw the HamFest signs but the gates locked
(without an explanation), and then probably wouldn't have circled the
perimeter of the fairgrounds (like I did) and instead turned around and
headed back out of Milton.
So, it would be really helpful if you could please update the website for
next year indicating the rough closing time.
Regards,
P.

I've been going to HAM fleas in and around Southern ontario for about
10 years now and this is quite normal. (I never did get my ticket,
but I still check out the fleas mainly looking for interesting vintage
computer hardware.) Generally speaking, if you want to find anything
decent, you pretty well have to be there early. There are a few
things I have learned about going to these things which may come in
handy:
1. Get there early. If it says it opens at 9:00, try to make it by
9:30 at the latest. Even then it might be too late.
2. Since many of the vendors are private individuals that are just
paying a few bucks for a table or a tailgate space, once they are
done, or think that interest is lowering, they'll pack up and leave.
The problem is, as things get sparse, others seem to take that as a
hint that its all over and they pack up too. A few years ago at the
K-W/Guelph flea in Fergus, I showed up at 10:30 and they just let me
in for free because most everyone had packed up already. It's just
the way things happen sometimes.
3. Remember, these are Amateur Radio (HAM) fleamarkets not computer
flea markets. If you're expecting anything remotely close to the
computerfests, you are likely to be disappointed. However, you may
find some vintage hardware that may be of interest. You are much more
likely to see a commodore-64 there than a P4. (that's not to say you
won't, but you'll be dissapointed if you are expecting to find tables
and tables of the latest computer hardware.)
4.Get there early. (Can't say that enough) but don't be surprised if
you walk away empty handed. Sometimes, you find some real gems that
makes it all worth while. About 7 years ago I got a lovely vintage
radio shack computer system for next to nothing from someone who was
just happy to give it to someone who could use it.
5. For a list of other fleas happening, check out the following:

Peter, thanks for the tips.
I guess when I saw the words
"Huge Computer and Amateur Radio flea market"
in the subject line, I kind of figured there might be some computer items
available at this fair, not just radio equipment.
I was more or less just going there to check it out for future reference,
and to see if they had any Unix systems available. It turned out there
was to be an HP computer leasing company at this festival, but at the
last minute the guy had to cancel due to a death in the family. So, in
the end I didn't really miss that much if there were only 3 computer
vendors (one which didn't show up for aforementioned reasons).
Gee, I'm looking at your point #2 about private Flea vendors packing
up and leaving early...aptly turning this into a "Flee Market"! ;-)
Regards,
P.

To Flee or not to Flea, that is the question.
