Our Client The recognized leader in their field requires a
Team Leader Data Management (This is a permanent position located in the GTA)

Overview We require an experienced manager specializing in the area of database administration (DBA) and data administration (DA). Responsible for getting a small team to successfully commit and complete DA and DBA deliverables for a number of systems projects in all stages of the development life cycle, and to provide production support for physical databases, including problem diagnosis and correction. You will also be responsible for developing database designs within the bounds of a data architecture approved by the CTO, resolving issues related to the data architecture and providing leadership in managing the enterprise data environment.
Key Responsibility Areas · Lead a Data Management department of approximately 5 - 10 staff,
including Data Base Administrators and other data specialists· Overall responsibility for the reliability, performance, and stability of the production databases· Overall responsibility for production database problem prevention, tracking and resolution, with a goal to minimizing disruption to the business from database problems· Overall responsibility for the Sybase and Data Warehouse technical environments,
including DBA and DA software version and configuration control,
upgrades as needed, licensing, and effective bug resolution· Overall,
responsibility for the design, planning, development, implementation and operation of data management systems and the enhancement of current ones by working cooperatively with information system projects and data warehousing users· Define the strategies and architectures for the evolution of the data management systems including data warehousing under the direction of the CTO· Develop project plans, identify and fill project resource needs, and manage projects to successful delivery on time and within budget· Plan and prioritize multiple project and task lists, effectively delegate to the team, follow-up consistently, and report any problems or priority conflicts that cannot be resolved within the team· Provide guidance on the use and purpose of the data management systems to involved audiences· Lead the selection of third-party DBA and DA software and manage vendor relationships on a day-to-day basis· Lead the selection and management of consultant resources as necessary·
Provide technical direction to project teams as needed· Manage attained budget and approved resources
Required Skills:

· Intimately familiar enough with SQL, and Sybase running on Solaris and Linux to be able to provide strong technical leadership to the team·
Strong familiarity with MS Analysis Server, Crystal Reports· Familiarity with Unix, Perl, Erwin· Strong experience managing a DBA team, including task delegation and follow-up, team building and supervisory skills·
Project management experience, including preparing schedules, tracking deliverables, reporting stats· Experience with high-level and detailed system design, requirements gathering, logical and physical data modeling, development and implementation us, etc. for more than one project at once · Experience in Data Warehousing architecture,
technology and implementation requirements to support a heavy workload based in decision support· Familiar with the current trends and advances in data management, such as web information management, workflow systems, electronic commerce, re-engineering business processes,
object-oriented databases, etc.· Familiarity with data management technology alternatives and be able to assess them periodically in light of short-term and long-term requirements· Understanding of technology cost parameters: price/performance, implementation/staff costs, and relation to business requirements
