Hello,

If i have a web service running on a different port opera won't let me connect to it by giving out 'Access to this port is disabled for security reasons'.
Yes, i know why Opera is rejecting non standard HTTP protocol port, so do not waste your time by explaining.

I was not able to find an option in the Preferences to disable this 'feature'.

My question - how to disable this wonderful 'feature'?

You don't, you fix the server. Web services should run on port 80, or one of the dynamic ports -- not ports reserved for other services such as FTP, NNTP, or whatever someone may think is a nice way to bypass his ISP's web filters.

Which port are you using? I've used random port numbers (http://blah:5001 etc..) to run services and didnt have opera complain. Not tested with 7.1x, 2x though..

I guess he uses the one intended for https, where there might be security reasons.

If that is considered an acceptable solution. Remember, this has been done to block a serious potential for abuse by any Web site. It is better to block these ports completely, rather than leave the user vulnerable. Maybe a more "flexible" solution will be available some time in the future.

But it is also a good idea for Web developers to refrain from doing things they shouldn't be doing in the first place.

It's not the only browser to do that sort of thing, and even if you could prevent /your/ browser from refusing, other people trying to use your server would face similar problems.

They will let you connect to some non-standard ports, so use a different non-standard port, rather than the one that you're currently attempting.
