Hey folks,

I'm going traveling/backpacking for a year.
Any recommendations as to the best place in Ottawa for travel supplies (e.g. travel wallets, packing bags, etc.)?

Cheers,
Michael

Mountain Equipment Co-op.

You may find the prices a little expensive but you do get quality items.

I absolutely love my MEC Talisman 3/4 length jacket. It is waterproof, windproof, has a hood, and roomy enough underneath for layering. I wear it year-round... in the summer as a rain jacket and in the winter as the outer part of a layering scheme with fleece jackets.

They also have a line of Serratus packing bags that are waterproof. The ones I have hold a tremendous amount of stuff, but one must remove everything on top to get at the items on the bottom. One is big enough for a sleeping bag and regular size pillow... keeps them both nice and dry.

One tip for packing... roll your items. They will take less space and won't crease as much when folded.

There are more tips on the MEC website: http://www.mec.ca/

Enjoy yourself!

Careful... those hiking boots and jacket may have been marinated in female grizzly scent.
