Saw a rider on the Queensway2day, full leather jacket, gauntlets, full face helmet and shorts. Guess he cares not for his legs or he's buying gear on installments. Oh well........

Well, I did that too a few times while going to work... What's the difference anyway between that, or, the popular kit: jeans, leather jacket,
leather gloves, fullface helmet? Next to nothing. Safetywise, jeans = shorts (except for the wind and bugs).
Go down once in jeans and you'll be convinced... At low speed your knee is most probably the first thing touching the ground, and instantly creates a bloody hole in your jeans (that happent to me); and at high speed, I don't know if they melt or tear apart or both (I guess both), but either way, I don't wanna think about what happens to the legs inside them.
I personnally do wear the "popular kit" with the jeans... for some reason they make me _feel_ safer than just shorts. But they aren't.

My opinion.

LOL!!!! Nah, zeek. It comes down to personal choice. For instance, you said in your post you're not comfortable riding without a full face lid.
I've GOT a full face lid and the first 2 times I rode in it....very bad. I felt claustrophobic, couldn't get the same peripheral vision I had with my half hat, could NOT close the visor fully....and rode like SH*T as a result.
Was prolly a hazard those two times on the road. Other, more seasoned riders who do wear a full-face have advised me it does take some getting used to. It sure DOES!!!

Maybe when it gets colder, I'll be able to manage the full-face. I know that with the half hat (and yes, I wear all the gear, but I will wear jeans only on a hot day), I'm taking a risk.

My choice. And if I go down....I'll be the one that suffers the consequences ;)

I'll accept that responsibility.
