Following the tradition of flunking (GW had a 69 in the one science course
(Science II, Basic Astronomy) during Freshman year at Yale)Science, GW has
again achieved an "F" grade by the League of Conservation Voters. The
Environmental Scorecards for elected officials for 2002 are now available at
the LCV (www.lcv.org) website. The continued ignorance on the environment by
Santorum has been discussed in a previous posting. However, here is a basic
summary with some statistics on the PA Representatives scores.
The Pennsylvania Representatives had scores ranging from zero to 93 % for
2001. The three zeros were Republican Representatives Peterson, Gekas, and the
Pitts. The two high 93% scores were Democrat Representatives Hoeffel and
Coyne. The ten Democratic Representatives had scores ranging from 36 to 93 %,
with an average of 70.0 %. The eleven Republican Representatives had scores
ranging from zero to 64%, with an average of 19.4 %.
The LCV 2002 Scorecards show similar trends with Peterson, Gekas, and the Pitts
scores below 10%, but on the positive side no zeros this time. Democrat
Representatives Hoeffel and Coyne again scored (respectively 91% and 95%) the
highest and only over 90%. The Republican scores range from 5 (Peterson and
Gekas tied for low honors) to 59%. The eleven Republican House members had an
average score of 22%. The Democratic scores ranged from 41 to 95%. The ten
Democratic House members had an average score of 69%.
