Hi folks,
This was my primary transportation for the last 3 and a half years,
going to school and work around town every day. I had to get something
newer to get me to and from those out of town job interviews.
Here's what you can get for a measly $300.
As in the subject line says, its a 1980 mk1 Scirocco. 5-speed manual
transmission, but 5th gear gave out.
It has 235,000 miles on it but the engine still purrs right along
(beneath the clunking of the transmission).
Its rust brown exterior and tan vinyl interior.
Clutch only has 20,000 miles on it so far.
All the little stuff:
Passenger outside door handle doesnt work.
Passenger window crank works, but makes noise.
Cigarette lighter doesnt work. The wires are fine, the socket shorts
out and blows the fuse so I disconnected it. I dont smoke anyway.
No radio, but good 5" pioneer door speakers.
Driver side door works fine, but looks like there was some welding
done near the lower hinge. Slight wind noise at top of driver door.
Body is straight but paint is original 23 years old, so the clearcoat
is peeling.
Battery tray is rusty.
I tinted the rear windows because most newer vehicles have obscenely
bright lights these days and can blind you from behind.
I'm guessing this would make a good autocross car, but not quite in
good enough condition for a full restoration project.
It comes with regular vw steel wheels that are on it, a full set of
Scirocco mk1 alloys with almost new tires on them, and a full set of
studded tires as well. Comes with 4 boxes of spare parts, older
barecrafter ski racks and a bicycle rack.
The car is located in Corvallis Oregon, and I cant imagine anybody
would want to ship a $300 car so I suppose you will have to come and
get it. It does drive and has good tags and all that, just no 5th
gear so top speed is 55-60mph in 4th gear as it is.
