Hello Glass Community,
I thought I'd let you be the first to have a sneak preview of my new
web site, before I unleash it on the rest of the world. It's dedicated
to Whitefriars glass,
Whitefriars were argubly the best English glass manufacturers.
It's a data driven site, meaning it works from a database, using some
pretty nifty website technology, so you can, among other things, add
comments to each piece, rate it on desirability, search keywords, and
filter the results to, for example see just vases.
It represents glass from my personal collection of about 500 pieces,
which spans the whole history of the glassworks. My earliest pieces
are from 1837. So far I've populated the pre-1925 period, with about
100 examples. The rest will be coming in the next couple of weeks. I
have to take it out of storage, wash it, I then have a professional
photographer coming next week to take the remaining photos and
re-photograph the ones that didn't come out too good.
There is a "Is it Whitefriars?" section where you can upload pictures
and it allows members to comment on it, and to vote, yes, no, or don't
know, on the submitted glass.
Coming next will be an application, where members will be able to
upload examples from their own collections, filling any holes in my
collection, so we will eventually have a detailed and complete
reference of the glass. And maybe a shop, but this needs more thought.
I have a lot of work to do yet on the site so bare with me.
Let me know what you think about the site, is it easy to navigate,
does everything work ok, and if you have any ideas or suggestions
If anybody is interested in writing descriptions on each piece or
doing a bit of research for me, please let me know.
I hope you enjoy the site, and become a member, it's all free.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook!
