Plastic box ? WW2 ? Sounds dubious. It could be celluloid, but the most likely plastic (polystyrene) would date it to the mid '50s at the earliest, especially if half is clear.

SPF in a catholic context is "Society for the Propagation of the Faith" (might be Preservation)
