If you think I have been quieter than usual, then it was becasue I
have been in hospital (hence the posting title!).
I was minding my own business when I felt as if I had been shot
through the right lung. This was in the night so I stayed quiet hoping
it would go off (because you do **not** want to go to a British
hospital), but it spread right across my chest and I couldn't breathe.
So at 5am last Tuesday I was carted off in an ambulance. Tons of
morphine...blood thinners...... and a diagnosis of a blood clot in my
right lung which then moved into the heart.
Anyway, after two days it went as quickly as it came and they let me
out. I've got all sorts of tests coming up, but I still want to get
down to the seaside soon for some R&R.
I just wish it wasn't so hot at the moment (mid-80s and no cloud)....
Thanks for listening there's no-one else around at the moment!

Yikes! You are a lucky man, Jon ... and so are we, 'cos
you're still here.

You want hot? How about 103, there's a forest fire been raging
for days just a few miles away.....

Glad you're OK. Are you on blood-thinners now?
Kris
Thanks, both.
There is one thing that *no-one* can deny, I *am* a fighter....just
get up, dust myself down and start again like nothing happened!!! 8)
It was great talking to Mike this afternoon, even though it is is the
mid-90's here today in Oxford and I was really feeling the heat!
The next r.a. UK meeting will be on the Isle of Wight, especially as
Mike's sister lives there now. I'll give a great tour of antique sites
and an even better pub tour.
Any antique tales going about....?

Glad you know things turned out well for you. My Hubby has had seven heart
surgeries and is going strong.
Don't feel too badly about English Hospitals - believe me, they are no
better here. :(
I am a colon cancer survivor so have had quite some experience with US
hospitals. While I was just "waiting" for an "appointment" for diagnosis
here, my cousin in Wales with a problem hip, was diagnosed AND had the hip
replaced! My colon finally burst and nearly killed me. Seems that was the
only thing that actually "got" me into surgery!! A famous Doc in LA who had
seen me just three months before said there was nothing wrong with me and
"it was all in my mind" and "I was the kind of woman who wanted to be sick".
At least you guys don't have to pay for it. Many here can't afford medical
insurance these days unfortunately and just don't see a Doc or Dentist. Now
that I'm on Social Security, the cost of health insurance for me would be
over $200 more per month than I receive! So I also go without.
Luckily my Hubby - because of his heart, is on disability so he does get
Medical coverage.
I hope you continue to do well. Determination, prayer and a will to go on,
go a long way in helping us all recover from what ails us. (In spite of the
medical profession)

I hear you Ronnie. Seems good health care is a constant battle everywhere
these days and only available "if" you can afford it.
However my cousin Tom in St.Agnes, Cornwall, did indeed get his cataract
surgery fairly quickly this year through the NHS and my cousin in Wales had
their hip also done under the NHS.Actually my cousin and her hubby both had
hips replacements in the same year.
As I get older and have more and more health problems to deal with, it
certainly is worrying to have no health care at all. I recently came down
with Macula Degeneration in my left eye. Pretty much self diagnosed and
dealt with alone at this point through research on the net. Dreadful since I
was born blind in my right. Nobody in our area will even see me unless I
produce proof of insurance first and there are no free health services in my
area either. Our only free clinic is shutting down this month I believe.
When it was open, the wait could actually be days, either sleeping in one's
car to stay in line for the next day or keep going back hoping someone will
see you. It was also miles out in the desert and few could even reach it
easily. Our free clinic was always full to overflowing with hundreds lining
up on the lawns outside. And in 110 degrees that is enough to make most
people not even want to stay.
Those who have a good health insurance plan probably don't realise how very
lucky they are.

Thinking of you all Ronnie.
Jim
So sorry to hear your bad news. I hope the tests and treatment have been
beneficial.
At least I've only had one serious illness in the past 50 years, although it
has left me severely disabled and had a major effect on my lifestyle.
Sad news too, from Ronnie.
This thread of messages coincided with yet another attempt by me to
correlate broadband with my old dial-up server. I've sorted e-mail, and I
can zip around the Internet with gay abandon, but I still haven't resolved
synchronising newsgroups. However, all of the wonderful messages of support
for Jon and Ronnie, and the other shared tales of illness and triumphing
over adversity, has reminded me of what a friendly and close-knit community
r.a. is.
I will persist, and at least lurk ;~)
Regards to you all.

To all that are recovering from heart problems* or have a family history of it.
I suggest you check out a supplement called Co-enzyme q10 with your Doctor. It
aids in recover by allowing your blood to carry more oxygen, works to improve
elasticity of the arteries and keep them clear of new blockages. It has been in
use in Japan for over 30 years and has no side effects. Diet change is also
extremely important, to date most data points to the Mediterranean diet ( lean
meats, olive oil, fish, fruit & veggies) being the most effective in controlling
the disease. The disease also seems to respond to higher levels of vitamins such
as C, E and B complex's. Some researchers believe that the lack of these anti
oxidants in the diet over time bring about arterial plaque, which is an attempt
by the body to repair damage of the arterial wall.
* My family has an extreme problem with heart disease, all brothers on my
father's side have died before 48 with the exception of one. For self
preservation I've done a great deal of research on this subject over the last 30
years.
